Child Support in Michigan is calculated using the Michigan Child Support Guidelines.  Support is usually calculated by an attorney as part of a Divorce, Custody, Support, Separation or Paternity case.  The following are factors taken into consideration for child support:

• number of overnights with the child

• income of both parties

• health insurance costs

• childcare

• ordinary medical expenses

Support can be ordered on a temporary basis while a divorce or custody case is pending.  It is not true that if the parties have equal parenting time, there is no child support.
